Steve Benson - Benson Triple Certified

Wireless Data Communications is pleased to announce that Steve Benson, Service Manager at the Liberal KS office made history recently by earning the first MDS (Microwave Data Systems) Technical Certification in MDS’s Full Service Partner Program. Steve passed the Narrowband exam, which is one of the three certifications MDS offers. (The others are Wideband and Networking.) Rus Healy, MDS Director of Technical Services made the announcement recently.
Healy said, “Each certification exam tests core knowledge in designing systems using MDS products, best practices for installing and configuring them, RF practices including antenna selection and interference mitigation, and integrating MDS products into larger systems. By passing the Narrowband certification exam, Steve has demonstrated strong competency in MDS Narrowband products, and has earned a two-year certification from MDS Technical Services.”
Steve is an Air Force veteran having served as an Avionics Instrument Systems Specialist on tours of duty in Spangdalem Germany and George AFB in California. Prior to accepting the position of Service Manger for Wireless Data Communications, (formerly Mobile Communications) Steve worked for Tejas Avionics, Motorola Semiconductor Products and Austin Avionics all in the Austin TX area. He was the service manager at Austin Avionics.
Steve and his wife Donna, a 6th grade teacher at Sunflower Intermediate School, along with their sons Thomas 11, Bradley 9, and Clayton 7, live in Liberal. Steve is a member of First Baptist Church where he runs the sound system for all services. A Ham Radio Operator Extra Class, Steve is a Charter Member and first President of SPARK (Southern Plains Amateur Radio Klub), the local amateur radio club.
In addition to his recent MDS Certification, Steve holds an FCC General Radio Telephone Operators Certificate with a Radar Endorsement as well as an FCC Amateur Extra License. He completed the National Radio Institute course in Complete Communications in 1981.
